This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one Jacob Gleason who was born in Waseca Minnesota on November 27 1994 and passed away on September 23 2009 at the age of 14, the result of a two vehicle accident. We will remember him and love him forever.
Jacob was a high energy kid from the time he started walking. He was always getting in to something and making himself known. When he was in 1st grade his mother signed him up for wrestling to hopefully channel some of his energy in to something. Once he was in wrestling he fell in love with the sport and also developed friendships with wrestlers from Waseca and with kids from other towns that continued until the day he passed away. This was where he met Zach who became one of his best and closest friends, who also gave Jacob's eulogy at his funeral at his own request (can be seen on his legacy page). Jacob had wrestled all over including nationals in Cedar Falls Iowa and Kansas City, and Zach was always there with him. They were both signed up to wrestle at the High School Preseason Nationals, October 31 2009. Jacob had already earned letters for wrestling varsity in both 7th & 8th grade, 112lbs in 7th, 125lbs & 130lbs in 8th grade. He had hoped to wrestle 135 or 140 his freshman year. Between youth and highschool, Jacob had wrestled over 350 matches through 8th grade.
Besides wrestling Jacob started playing t-ball and continued playing baseball through the summer following his 8th grade year, just two months before his passing. Jacob was a pitcher the last few years and played pretty much every other position except catcher and was a very good baseball player. Baseball is where Jacob met Brock who also became one his best and closest friends. Brock was standing next to Jacob in his last picture on September 23.
In 4th grade Jacob started tackle football in the youth league, even getting to play in the metrodome in the 5th and 6th grades. In 7th grade he was quarterback and on defense. In 8th grade he played split end. Jacob only got to play 3 games as a freshman before we lost him, but in that 3 games he made his presence very well known by catching Eric's passes for touchdowns and playing linebacker on defense. Football was becoming his favorite and was hoping to get a scholarship to play football in college even though he was still a freshman.
In 7th grade Jacob started lifting weights and by the time he was finishing 8th grade he was very dedicated to lifting and was really seeing the results of his work. He fell in love with lifting and had made some big lifts for someone his age and weight, including a 200lb bench for his weight room coach two days before his death. Jacob was using weight lifting as a way to get bigger and stronger for wrestling and football.
Besides sports Jacob loved to hang out with his many freinds and go to parties with them as Jacob was quite a social kid. One thing Jacob was extremely proud of was his niece Haylie, who could do no wrong in his eyes and he loved to play around with any chance he got. He really had a love for hunting and fishing also. Jacob was building a fish house so he and his friends could go ice fishing after wrestling. Another thing Jacob liked to do was to do front and back flips and other tricks on the trampoline with his sisters, brother and friends. He also loved to ride his bike and riding the four wheeler around the farm. He was really starting to get excited about the fact that he would be getting his driving permit and license soon.
Then came September 23 2009, a day of school that started out like any other day, but ended up like a terrible nightmare. It was a early out day when he went for a ride with a friend and ended up being in an accident with another vehicle. The car he and his friend were in went through a stop sign and were hit by another car causing it to roll and land on it's top and catch fire. He was pinned in the vehicle and was unable to be rescued. Jacob was able to call 911 with his cell-phone and identify himself and what had happend. Emergency personal were not able to get there in time to save Jacob, but we believe Jacob's call was what saved his friends life by getting the helicopter in the air and to the scene to transport him. For what Jacob did as a 14yr old in his final moments, we as his parents, his brother and sisters are and always will be extremly proud of Jacob.
Jacob is dearly missed and will never be forgoten by his mom and dad, older sister Jennifer, brother Brandon, younger sister Kimberly, niece Haylie, and many friends and relatives.
For more information on the day of the accident, what caused it, and why it didn't have to happen at all, you are invited to visit http://minnesotacrashvictims.org , go to memorials and enter Jacobs name in the seach area. Thank you for visiting this site.
